Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the benefits of football scholarships and volunteering for the community. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children in a Eufala farm. A second reason was Selmon is the youngest of three brothers who played with Oklahoma. All three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was one of the top linemen in all of the nation. In the three years that Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. He received a third scholarship in 1975, and was named as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Fourth service In college Lee Roy devoted ten hours every week for volunteer activities. Following college, he relocated to Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro for three occasions. After that, he began his professional career. His first job was as a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6'2 inches. While he was in college, he commanded the team of 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
